Tel Aviv celebrates White Night on the 28th June, a night on which The City That Never Sleeps really doesn’t sleep!
Now in its 10th year, White Night is a celebration of Tel Aviv being declared a White City (a reference to Tel Aviv’s large number of white Bauhaus-style buildings) by UNESCO in 2003. Every year since, Tel Aviv has partied annually with a host of amazing cultural events, most of which are FREE.
Here’s our guide to FIVE events we highly recommend catching on this awesome night of culture. And don’t forget to cancel plans for early Friday morning…
1. Stroll down Rothschild Boulevard
Rothschild is where much of the action takes place and the crowds really get, er, huge! Watch out for the specially lit Bauhaus buildings, and some fun street entertainment along the way, all of which will be free. Things will be happening all night, and with many of the area’s bars and cafes also taking part, you can be sure of eating, drinking and being very merry!
2. Free concert by Nouvelle Vague in Tel Aviv’s Bialik Square
French band Nouvelle Vague will be at Beit Ha’ir, Bialik Square for a FREE concert! Starting at 21:00, Nouvelle Vague will perform their show The Dawn of Innocence, as part of their world tour with writer and fashion designer Jean- Charles de Castelbajac. Expect an awesome mix of opera, pop, rock and theater. And here’s a taste of what Nouvelle Vague can do with one of our favorite songs ever – beautiful!
3. Jaffa goes cultural (the Flea Market and Jaffa Port)
The flea market in Jaffa is an awesome place to be this White Night, with events for all the family, including a whole range of musical performances that will begin at 20:00. This is a great night to explore the flea market, with a ton of art and craft stalls, and street performers. Head down to Jaffa Port for more musical goodness, with concerts and jam sessions scheduled all evening (starting at 19:00).
4. Boogie at the Headphone Party in Rabin Square
If you need to shake your thang, head over to the Headphone Party in Rabin Square, which happens between 20:00 and 01:00. Don’t worry if you don’t have your own headphones, they’ll be renting them out to wanna-be dancers. Alternatively, bring your own smartphone and headphones and download the app that will let you party!
5. Art, beer, music and other surprises at Studio 6B
Art lovers should head over to the Studio 6B Design and Architecture School, located in Ehad Ha’am street, which will host a graduates’ exhibition and also celebrate with a huge street party. The party will feature DJs spinning their wares, plus the live band Hashovavim. The action starts at 21:00. The art on display will include the works of 60 graduates in categories ranging from graphic design to photography.
