If you love photo exhibitions, and love your 60s culture icons (in the form of the ultimate icons of the 60s, the Beatles and the Rolling Stones), then head over to the Minotaure Gallery in Tel Aviv for some amazing pics!
The Minotaure Gallery, located at 100 Ben Yehuda Street, will be hosting 40 amazing pics taken by legendary British photographer Philip Townsend. The exhibition lasts until the end of the year (31.12.11).
Townsend was the first photographer to take pictures of the Rolling Stones, and he caught them looking hungry and with a glint in their eye, just before they broke into the big-time. He also added fuel to the fire of the Stones’ reputation as the “bad boys” of rock ‘n roll by taking photos of them drinking beer, and outside London bars. Not such a “done thing” in those naive days of the early 60s…
Townsend’s photos of the Beatles, very much the “good boys” of rock ‘n roll, show a different side to the 60s, when the world was talking about peace, love… and meditation. Apparently Townsend was the only official photographer at one particular meditation session, when the boys and their partners met up with the legendary meditation guru Maharishi. The photos in this exhibition are from that meetup.
The gallery is open from 10:30 to 19:30 Sunday to Thursday, and on Fridays until 14:00.
