One of those things that can only happen in Israel. There you’ll be, driving/walking along one of Tel Aviv’s main streets (I presume it’s not only the streets of Tel Aviv, but also Jerusalem, Haifa, Eilat…), minding your own business, when, all of a sudden, a transit van pulls up at a junction, and out jump 4 or 5 religious guys suddenly shaking their stuff to the trance music pounding out of the van. They are seemingly oblivious to the traffic and passersby and just happy (ecstatic even) to shake their thang.
Once the traffic light changes, they all pile back into the van and are gone in a flash (though sometimes not so quickly, as the video below shows). These guys are great entertainment, though I’m sure they always leave a few drivers seething.
These guys are of the Breslev (or Breslov) faith, spreading the word of their spiritual leader Rabbi Nachman of Breslov through music and dancing. They believe that the Rabbi was the last righteous person in the world, and that by dancing and spreading word about his name and teachings, the world will be put right. Bless ’em.
