Israeli wine strikes again: Golan Heights Winery named New World Winery of 2012!

Golan Heights WineryIsraeli wine has come on leaps and bounds in the last few years, and this week achieved yet another glowing accolade to add to its ever growing list: New World Winery of 2012!

The winery selected for this award by Wine Enthusiast, one of the wine industry’s leading trade magazines, is Israel’s biggest and best known winery, the Golan Heights Winery.

As Wine Enthusiast put it:

Golan Heights Winery is at the top of its game, using state-of-the-art equipment like vineyard meteorological stations and electro-conductivity soil scanning to aid in its viticultural success.

With three of their main wines accounting for some 40% of Israel’s wine exports, it’s quite possible that you’ve come across one of them – Golan, Gamla, and the bestselling Yarden. These three brands are in almost all supermarkets, and are highly recommended as a gift (for friends, family or even yourself) to take with you when heading home from the Holy Land (yes, they’re also easily found in the duty free shops when leaving Israel).

And the Golan Heights Winery, located in Katzrin, isn’t sitting back and resting on its laurels: it has recently invested heavily in disease-resistant and insect-free plants, so the future looks to be even rosier (and tastier for wine fans!).
