Mate (yes, that’s its name) – This pub in the heart of Tel Aviv (well OK, the northern end of Dizengoff Street) is a great little neighbourhood pub. I like it a lot, it’s not really trying to be something it’s not, it’s a drink some beer, shoot some pool, bump into new friends kind of place. You could even take a date, though come early at the weekend because it fills out pretty quick. Waitresses are cute (aren’t they always in this kind of pub?) and the music is fine.
One thing I should point out – if you are an aggressive non-smoker, this place is not for you. The Health and Safety laws have failed to stick in this pub, and as a result, 90% of the people in this place are smoking, if not more. So no huddles of nervous looking smokers at the entrance…
