The Lonely Planet, producer of the world’s favorite travel guides (we bet you’ve got at least one of their guides!), have announced their hot tips for regions to see in 2013 – and Israel’s Negev Desert storms in at NUMBER 2!
Personally, we’re inclined to agree; the desert region of Israel is often seen through the windows of cars on the drive down to Eilat, but that desert scenery is stunning to look at, and with the number of activities ever expanding in the region, the Negev really is becoming a must-do. We’re currently working on a number of articles about the region, so stay tuned!
This is what the Lonely Planet (here’s the Top 10 regions they recommend for 2013) had to say about the Negev:
For decades the Negev was regarded as nothing but a desolate desert. But today, this region is a giant greenhouse of development. Think eco-villages, spa resorts and even wineries. In the next few years a new international airport at Timna is scheduled to open, followed by a high-speed railway to Eilat and more hotels. Time is running out to experience the desert as nature intended.
As they so rightly point out, now is the time to come and see the Negev – before the trains, planes and crowds come!
