Pecha Kucha, Tel Aviv – an awesome night of art and creativity

For those of you with a passion for the more creative things in life, next week’s Pecha Kucha night in Tel Aviv (9th February at Hangar 11, Tel Aviv port) could be a must-do stopover for a few hours. Now in it’s eleventh show (they seem to be occurring 3 times a year), the Pecha Kucha Tel Aviv gig is a great place to catch up on some of the happening things, and people, in the Israeli art world.

The idea of “Pecha Kucha” was originally initiated in Tokyo in February 2003 as an event for young designers to meet, network, and show their work in public. Ever since, it’s become a bit of a phenomenon, with events happening in hundreds of cities around the world, inspiring the creative-minded worldwide.

In Israel, it has become quite a hit and an eagerly awaited event. I’m not sure any of the presentations are in English, but sometimes art is beyond words, right?

Tickets are now unavailable from the main website, but you might be able to grab some at Loveat cafes across Tel Aviv (at Barzilay 1, Nahalat Binyamin 3 and Dizengoff 232), or at Ozen HaShlishit, King George 48. They usually get snapped up pretty quick, and are cheap at 20 shekels a pop.

Here’s a taster of one Pecha Kucha night (volume 9) of animators sh.Pixel (that’s quite an impressive series of animation projected onto a huge wall – well worth a watch!).
