Driving in Israel isn’t the easiest at the best of times (see our guide to driving in Israel for more), but it doesn’t really bear thinking about when you face drink drivers. Israeli drink drivers. Oh dear…
It’s a little comforting that, like in most of the western world, drink driving is now taken seriously in Israel. There are roadside checks, especially in the big cities, and even advertising campaigns to convince the public, especially the yoof of today, who have started to cotton on to the joys of alcohol.
One major organization behind road safety in Israel is Or Yarok, who have long been advocating safer driving in Israel, with inroads in that direction being made perhaps only recently. Their latest advertising effort is a killer though, pardon the pun…
They have created a 20 meter giant bottle shaped tower, consisting of 80 cars that have been involved in drunk driving collisions, which will be placed alongside a major highway in Israel for the next 3 months. It’s estimated some 1 million people will be exposed to the giant bottle and its message (“If you’re drinking, don’t drive”) every day!
We like it here at igoogledisrael!
