As temperatures soar and the humidity levels reach breaking point in Israel, there is, of course, only one sport on your mind – ice hockey. What?! Oh yes, if you fancy a bit of a break from the heat of Tel Aviv or even further down south, and you love a bit of puckery goodness, the Canada Center in Metulla is your destination between 5-15th July.
That’s right, the Canada Center in Metulla, up at the northern tip of Israel, will be holding the Jewish Ice Hockey Championships with six countries competing for the title of the best of Jewish ice hockey – USA, Canada, France, Russia, the UK and Israel. The Championship is open to the public for free, a nice little gesture in what is probably one of the biggest sporting events to take place in Israel. ALL games are free and there is even a free shuttle service from nearby Kfar Giladi. Sounds like a winner to us!
Hundreds of professional ice hockey players will be on show, some of whom play for some of the biggest teams in world ice hockey, as well as some big-name international coaches. And don’t forget the local boys, the Israeli team (world ranking of 28th) will also be there, as well as the Metulla Hockey Club, the home of the Israeli senior and youth team.Â
The Canada Center’s Olympic sized skating rink is the only one in Israel. It has been upgraded so that it meets international standards. You don’t just have to go to the Canada Center for the ice hockey; there is also a great indoor pool, bowling, a shooting range, a cafe for snacks and a whole lot more. A great day out, with or without the hockey stick!
We hope all you hockey players and fans have a pucking good time!
