2010 is already shaping up to be yet another humdinger. That is, if you like music. 2009 saw some great, top-class performers play in Israel, and this year it looks like being even better. I’m not quite sure how my bank manager is going to see this as something “better”, but still…
So yes, it does look like being a great (and expensive – concert tickets in Israel are notoriously pricey) year for music lovers. Currently on the confirmed list are the Pixies and Carlos Santana, who are both slated for some summer fun (the Pixies on June 9th, Carlos Santana yet to be scheduled).
Also apparently on the confirmed list is Beyonce, who is supposed to be strutting her bootylicious stuff at THREE Tel Aviv gigs at the end of this month (but seeing as I can’t find any info online about tickets I doubt this is going to happen in January), Elton John, U2, and Rhianna (all of which have yet to officially confirm with scheduled dates). It’s great that they appear to be on their way, but guys, let’s have a confirmed concert date please…
And then there’s the rumor list: let’s see if we can add some fire to the already existing rumors…
First off, Coldplay. They’re always in demand in Israel, perhaps rightly so as one of the world’s biggest bands, and for the last year or so there has been a constant stream of rumors that they’d finally be confirming a gig in the Holy Land. As yet, no joy (a good thing, some might say…), but seeing as they have the same American showtime company (Live Nation) as U2, and stronger connections with Israeli producer Shuki Weiss thanks to his putting on some very impressive shows last year (including Madonna and Depeche Mode), it does look like a possibility.
Next, it’s those lovely Green Day lads. Big, big band, though perhaps one for the yoof of Israel to drool over and pogo along to. But for now, the yoof of Israel only have posters on their walls to drool over…
And lastly, for now, the Rolling Stones. There was a moment last summer when it looked like they might be about to confirm a concert date in Israel, but it didn’t happen, as per 2007. Maybe this year? Maybe not, who knows…
Whoever ends up performing in the Holy Land, it’s sure to be a great year. And we’ll be here, listing all the shows as they happen. Our world famous guide to the acts coming to perform in Israel will soon be up and running for 2010. Just got to get Beyonce and Elton to confirm some dates and then I’ll splash a lick of paint on it and Bob’s your Uncle…stay tuned!
