From the very first scene of wild dogs running through the streets of Tel Aviv, the film’s surrealism and video game feel make it a compelling view. War scenes aplenty, accompanied by a haunting soundtrack and some classic 80’s pop tunes turn Waltz with Bashir into an animation movie unlike any animation movie you’ve ever seen. This is no Disney special…and I loved it.
Already a winner of the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film, Waltz with Bashir is also tipped for Oscar glory. Go see it before it becomes too big for its own boots. Trailer below, just to whet your appetite.
UPDATE: Waltz with Bashir has been nominated for an Oscar.
As the New York Times puts it:
A memoir, a history lesson, a combat picture, a piece of investigative journalism and an altogether amazing film.
