Tower of David citadelOne of our fave places in Jerusalem, the amazing Tower of David, has TWO new exhibitions to enjoy!

Running from May 24 to September, the two exhibitions at the Tower of David Museum look at contemporary design inspired by the city of Jerusalem and its amazing history.

Enjoy the exhibitions – and don’t forget to take a look around the citadel or check out the must-see Night Spectacular.

THREADS

Threads, curated by fashion photographer and journalist Tamar Karavan, brings influential and inspirational women of the past together with women of today as Israel fashion designers are “inspired” by these women of Jerusalem.

There are many famous women from the past who have greatly contributed to the city of Jerusalem, including the Queen of Sheba, Empress Helena, Shlomzion Alexandra and Hemda Ben Yehuda. Ten leading Israeli fashion designers, including among others Aluma, Raziella, Tamar Primak, Rachel Cohen and Karen Oberson, were paired with these women from the past and invited to create a contemporary outfit inspired by their character and the legacy that they left.

The clothes will be on display at the Tower of David Museum together with a photographic exhibition of the clothes being modeled in different parts of the Old City by “models'” such as actress Keren Mor, writer Zeruya Shalev, choreographer Renana Raz, actress Dana Ivgy, and singer Ester Rada.

SUSPICIOUS OBJECTS

Suspicious Objects, curated by industrial designer and senior lecturer at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, Tal Gur, will present works by Israeli artists that all work today in consumer product design – and all of the works have been inspired by Jerusalem.

The exhibition features the work of designers inspired by the city of Jerusalem, works that have been exhibited in the past and those that were created specifically for this exhibition.

Suspicious Objects is located in the new exhibition room of the Tower of David, in the ancient Phasael Tower built originally by King Herod over 2000 years ago.  The view from the open window of the exhibition hall is that of the Old City of Jerusalem, the Western Wall and the Temple Mount – the very view that has inspired so many people for hundreds if not thousands of years, and still does today.
