One of the must-see events of recent years in Israel has been the magnificent opera productions held at Masada each summer.
Typically held over a handful of nights, they are packed to the rafters with opera fans from across the world and are definitely a highlight for many tourists over the summer.
This year, there are not one but TWO productions to enjoy – Tosca by Puccini and Carmina Burana by Orff!
Tosca at Masada
Puccini’s Tosca will perform on 4, 6, 11, 13 June 2015 and will be conducted by seasoned maestro Daniel Oren. Tosca is the story of the ultimate Diva in a new production of Puccini’s fiery drama in which the corrupt chief of police will do all that it takes to win Tosca’s favors. This is Puccini at his best in a new truly spectacular production. Just so you know, songs will be sung in Italian and the show is expected to last 2 hours and 45 minutes. The shows start at 21:30.
Carmina Burana at Masada
Orff’s Carmina Burana will perform on 5 and 12 June 2015 and will be conducted by James Judd. This is a magical opera, with a collection of songs (sung in German and Latin) from the monasteries of Middle Ages Europe celebrating the fertility rites of nature and human beings alike. Carl Orff’s sweeping opus comes alive in this awesome open air production that will feature a visual pyrotechnical display of colors and multimedia presented by hundreds of artists. The shows start at 22:00.
