UPDATED FOR 2015!
For those of you in search of something a little different, how about the first ever Holi One Color Festival, coming soon to Israel!
Based on the ancient Indian festival of Holi, and often known as the Festival of Colours, it was originally a festival performed by women for the happiness and well-being of their families, but has slowly evolved into a festival of fun, heralding the arrival of Spring while also celebrating the victory of good over evil. Sounds good to us!
The modern day Holi One Color Festival is not officially tied to the Indian festival, but definitely draws its inspiration from the Holi. It has traveled the world already, taking place in the US, Germany and Singapore, and is now spreading the world over.
The idea behind the festival is that thousands of people, dressed in white, come together in a celebration of music (with some big-name DJs), dance, performance art and visual stimulation, with plenty of color along the way! A special moment of the festival is the first count down, when everyone throws colored powder (which is safe, non-toxic AND environmentally friendly) at the same moment – as shown in the photo above and the awesome clip below.
As of right now, the date is set for September 12, 2015 on the Tel Aviv promenade. We’ll keep you posted as soon as we hear of any changes. There will be a fee to enter and the colored powder can only be purchased at the festival (you can’t bring your own).
Check out their official Facebook page for updates. In the meantime, check out the clip below for a taste of what to expect – looks awesome!
