It’s not often we’ll mention the upper echelons of Israeli politics here on this site, but this was worth a mention, or at least I thought so. President Shimon Peres (ShimmyP as he now likes to be called…), the elder statesman of Israeli politics and respected the world over for his drive for peace in the Middle East has gone social media on us and set up his own YouTube channel.
ShimmyP probably wasn’t thinking along these lines when he first started out in politics, but hey, you’ve got to admire a man who at 86(!) embraces new ways of getting his message across. As he put it:
The internet fundamentally changed the way we communicate with one another. As a man who believes in the power of technology, I am excited at the prospect of dialogue with the citizens of Israel and the world.
His main reason for setting up this YouTube channel? Always on the lookout to reach out to Israel’s neighbors, he sees it as an opportunity to be in touch with countries who don’t have an official, political relationship with Israel.
Bless your little cotton socks, Shimon. May you have many views and none of the stupid comments that attach themselves to so many YouTube videos…
