Two of the most influential rock bands the music industry has ever seen – Soundgarden and the Pixies – will be performing in the summer of 2014 in Israel!
In what is pretty huge news for music lovers in Israel, Soundgarden and the Pixies will be performing back to back concerts – the Pixies on June 17, and Soundgarden on June 18 – as part of an amazing new festival planned by Israeli promoters.
The cynic in us recalls the much vaunted Lollapalooza Festival which was scheduled for last summer and just went completely off the radar, and also the Pixies last minute cancellation back in 2010, but hey, if this happens, these two concerts could be two of the biggest to hit Israel next summer! The rest of the festival lineup is set to be released soon, we’ll keep you posted here with developments.
The concerts will take place at the Bloomfield Stadium in Tel Aviv. Tickets start at 275 shekels, and go all the way up to 850 shekels. For more info, call *9066.
The Pixies are a much-loved band in Israel, and we, like thousands of others, were very disappointed they pulled the plug back in 2010. Their two monster albums, Doolittle and Surfer Rosa have earned cult status and can be heard and felt in the Israeli rock scene.
Soundgarden, recognized as the leaders of the famed grunge scene in Seattle, are also renowned for their impact on the Israeli rock scene. After their break up in 1997, lead singer Chris Cornell has gone on to a much acclaimed solo career, including two stopovers in Israel, the last in 2012. The band actually reformed in 2010 and have gone on to be a big festival draw.
Here’s a taste of the Pixies in their prime, a song that even Mrs iGoogled shakes her long luscious locks to…
