Men of North Country: another cracking little Israeli band your ears should be acquainted with!

We love getting introduced to awesome little bands in Israel, and then passing that knowledge on to you…and here’s another little band we’ve come across recently that might just tickle your ears into submission: Men of North Country!

Men of North Country

Believe it or not, there is a soul scene in Israel. Yes indeed. OK, it might not be a huge scene, but it’s there alright. And one of the scene’s major players, DJ Yashiv Cohen, is the man behind Men of North Country. Together with his mates, the guys from Electra (themselves one of the Israeli bands we really, really fancy to strike it big), the Ramirez Brothers, Funk’n’stein and Coolooloosh, this little ensemble has created The North, one of the best albums we’ve heard this year! Great melodies, great lyrics, and some great infectious hooks – give it a listen!

Three minute blasts of soul-influenced pop (in English, of course), with traces of Teardrop Explodes, the Style Council, and other 60s soul tunes, these guys deserve your attention.

Signed to the UK record label Acid Jazz, check out the clips below for a taste (there’s even a cover of the Human League’s Mirror Man, which was released earlier this year, and their two tracks from their debut double A-sided single for your ears to enjoy). You can also Like them on Facebook to catch up on the latest news.

The band are made up of: Yashiv Cohen – vocals, Boaz Wolf – drums, percussion, keys, guitars, Nitzan Horesh – guitars, vocals, Doron Farhi – bass, guitars, vocals, Sefi Sizzling – trumpet, Ongy Sizzling – saxophone, and Ido Kretchmer – trombone.

We love ’em – we’re pretty sure you’re gonna love ’em too!

Here’s Debut, their very first single, a double A-side. Is that a buttoned-up Fred Perry Yashiv is wearing??!

And the other side of that debut single – Man of North Country
