We recently discovered the Mongolian tents at Genghis Khan (in the southern Golan Heights) as part of our crazy 32-day family adventure through Israel, and what can we say – we were completely charmed!
When we first booked a couple of nights through Sara, the amazingly helpful owner, I have to admit to being a bit dubious about staying in tents in the middle of the summer in Israel. But we couldn’t have been more wrong – the tents were amazingly spacious, comfortable, and fully air-conditioned (we even had to turn off the AC at night, it got too cold!).And the facilities were just about perfect – there is a separate toilet/shower cubicle for each tent, and the cooking facilities were very good – everything you needed and more was there, including a large fridge (something we were quickly discovering was soooo important on our road trip). The carefully tended gardens and lawns were also superb, and provides an awesome spot for letting the kids loose – and we all know that kids need to be let loose now and again!
This isn’t a place for couples looking for a romantic getaway, but is absolutely spot on for those of you traveling as groups/with families looking for an excellent and budget-friendly base for travelling around the Golan Heights. Yes, there’s plenty to do in the area, including the Golan trail, the nearby beaches of the Sea of Galilee (about 15 minutes away), and the stunning archaeological site of Susita (we were so glad we took Sara’s advice and spent an amazing sunset hike there). There’s also lots more sites to enjoy, just ask Sara for some off-the-beaten-track gems.
For more details, see the official site (in our opinion, Genghis Khan looks even better in real-life than on the website!). Or alternatively, check out the latest discounts and availability here.
