Last night me and the missus caught the much anticipated (by us anyway!) Suede gig in Tel Aviv. And we weren’t disappointed!
To be honest, I’m not a big fan of the concert hall they played at, Bitan 1 at the Ganei Tarukha (Exhibition Grounds). Although that’s largely down to the “height-challenged” missus, who invariably struggles to catch a glimpse of her heroes when she’s part of the thronging mass a few rows back…
This time however, we got there a few minutes early, grabbed our spot for the gig, and with a contraband mini-bottle of whiskey to warm the cockles (not sure I hate, or just really dislike the bracelets you have to get at the door in order to be able to buy a beer in the hall), were feeling optimistic and ready for anything.
And Lady Luck was with us, because as Suede hit the stage, it seemed like all the “height-challenged” Suede fans were lined up in front of us. Me, I had a great view, even from 20 rows back.
So, how were Suede? I have to say that I’ve heard better sound quality at gigs before, and Brett Anderson really should have connected with the crowd (no “Hello Tel Aviv!”, no “Shalom Israel!”, nothing…). BUT, they were on top of their game, and Brett sure knows how to play the showman. Hard to believe they haven’t released anything new for nine years, and let’s face it, anything half decent for a lot longer than that.
Great guitar work, great energy-packed songs, and a great performance from Brett Anderson.
Yep, a great gig! And here are some highlights…
