Suede, one of the most critcially acclaimed acts to come out of Britain in the 90s, and one of the pioneers of Britpop, have finally confirmed they’ll be performing in Tel Aviv in July. Awesome!
After many rumors over the last few weeks (and yes, Suede have a big following in Israel), the date and venue has been set: July 1st at the Exhibition Grounds in Rokach Street, Tel Aviv. Tickets are to be between 290-340 shekels. For more info, call *8965.
It was their debut album Suede that launched their career back in ’93, the album becoming one of the fastest selling debut albums of all-time. In the year prior to its release, the band had become the most talked about band in Britain, and legendary music weekly the Melody Maker proclaimed them: The Best New Band in Britain.
The Britpop movement that came from nowhere in ’93 did include Suede among its stars, but Suede were quick to distance themselves from it, preferring to be more experimental. Their next two albums exposed clashes of personality between band members (leading to guitarist Bernard Butler leaving the band) but also great commercial success (though not in the US).
After calling it quits in 2003, band members have gone on to solo projects, though with little commercial success. Last year they reformed, and are currently on the road promoting their Best of Suede compilation album, released just before Christmas last year.
This is one gig the missus and I won’t be missing! To see Suede perform The Beautiful Ones (see below), live in Tel Aviv, amazing!
