American singer-songwriter and guitarist Shuggie Otis will be performing in Tel Aviv in May 2013!
Best known for his smash No. 1 hit Strawberry Letter 23 (actually recorded by the Brothers Johnson), Otis is scheduled to perform at the Barby Club in Tel Aviv on 1 May. Tickets are priced at 219 shekels, for more details call 03-5107070.
Shuggie Otis is the son of legendary musician and impresario Johnnie Otis. Renowned more for his guitar skills, he was even once described by legend BB King as his favorite guitarist. His 70s album Inspiration Information became a cult dance hit in the 90s with the emergence of acid jazz and was eventually re-released in 2001.
After some years out of the limelight, Shuggie is now touring with his new band on a “Never Ending World Wide Tour”.
And yes, he is also known as the man who turned down the Rolling Stones, when they asked him to join their world tour in the 70s…
