Frankie Knuckles (The Godfather of House Music) is coming to Tel Aviv!

Frankie Knuckles in Tel AvivFrankie Knuckles, known as The Godfather of House Music, is coming to Tel Aviv later this month!

The man who helped develop house music as a DJ in Chicago in the 1980s, and who then helped bring house music to the world’s attention back in the 1990s, will be performing a set at Tel Aviv’s hottest club, The Block.

His debut album Beyond the Mix, released back in 1991, was the album that first brought the world’s attention to his mixing and producing skills, although he largely stayed underground in the years after, DJing at some of New York’s biggest clubs. In 1997, Knuckles won a Grammy for Remixer of the Year, Non-Classical. He continued working on his remixing, working together with Michael Jackson, Luther Vandross and Diana Ross, among others.

Today Knuckles is considered one of the Holy Trinity of House producers, together with Larry Levan and Ron Hardy. Unlike Levan and Hardy, Knuckles is alive and kicking and still showing the world what he’s got while passing those skills and knowledge on to the next generation.

The date to mark in your diaries is January 24th, 2013. Tickets are priced at 80-100 shekels, but see the official event page for more details, or call 03-5378002.

The Block is located at 157 Salame Street, in Tel Aviv.

Here is one of his classic mixes from the 80s, the house classic Your Love.
