If you love your honey, the annual Israel Honey Festival is the place to be if you want to amaze the world with your Winnie The Pooh impersonation…
This great little festival, spread throughout a number of locations in Israel, starts today (3rd September) and runs til Saturday the 15th September.
Great fun for all the family, some of the activities you can enjoy include beehive tours, honey-tasting, plays and activities for the kids, and even lessons in the therapeutic powers of honey.
You can catch the Honey Festival throughout Israel, including these spots (we’ve included phone numbers where possible):
- In the north of Israel try our favorite honey spot, Devorat HaTavor at Moshav Shadmot Devorah (next to Kfar Tavor, tel: 04-6769598), as well as Moshav Manot (near Shlomi, tel: 04-9806005), the beehives of Kibbutz Shamir (near Kiryat Shmona, tel: 04-6947826), and Alon HaGalil (in the Jezreel Valley, tel: 052-2824644).
- In the center of Israel, head for Kfar Bilu (near Rehovot, tel: 050-5744198), and Moshav Mishmeret next to Tel Mond (Tel: 09-7961260).
- In the south, head for Kibbutz Yad Mordechai (just south of Ashkelon, tel: 08-6720559), home to over 5000 beehives, the largest concentration of beehives in the country.
Prices range from the excellent free entry at Kfar Bilu, to 6 shekels per child at Kibbutz Shamir (adults free), to the more expensive 45 shekels at Devorat HaTavor. We’d recommend calling ahead just to confirm prices, activities available, and hours.
