Israel’s 2009 music season kicks off this weekend with yet another, ahem, superstar called Paul. OK, so not the Macca media frenzy of a few months ago, but a certain Paul Young, he of the early-mid 80s, he of the spiky hair and soulful voice and stonewashed jeans (Ha, remember them?!).
Proving he ain’t no (spring?) chicken and that the Holy Land is a lot safer than you might think, Paul has come over for 3 shows, in Tel AvivĀ and Haifa. Bless ‘im. Apparently it’s been 25 years since the classic No Parlez album was released and this tour is kind of celebrating that half-jubilee. He certainly has some great 80s classics under his belt: Come Back and Stay, Love of the Common People, Wherever I Lay My Hat etc etc.
You might be interested to knowĀ that he’s been working on a new albumĀ with Tony Hadley (of Spandau Ballet fame) and Peter Cox (of Go West fame), set to be released very soon. Bet you can’t wait for that one!
Anyway, we say “nice one!” Paul, have a great time over here.
The concerts:
- 29.1.09 – Heichal Hatarbut Mann Auditorium, Tel Aviv. Tickets are 149 shekels.
- 30.1.09 – Haifa International Convention Center. Tickets are 149 shekels.
- 31.1.09 – Reading 3, Tel Aviv. Tickets are a crazy 349 shekels for his farewell Holy Land gig. Call me crazy, but not too sure there’ll be a full house at that price.
And just in case you needed reminding:
