If you’re in Jerusalem’s Old City this week, what can we say, you’ve timed it right! Starting tonight and for the next five nights, you’ll not only get a taste of some general awesome Old City goodness, but you’ll also be able to feast yourselves silly on exotic delights…
As part of the annual Tastes Festival, the gates and alleyways of the Old City will be awash with foods to taste, and have your mouth a-watering. The action kicks off every evening at 6pm, and will continue through to 11pm.
In addition to the many smells and tastes that’ll confront your senses from various food stands, you’ll also be able to enjoy food markets (including a market based on foods from the Second Temple period), ethnic cuisine, culinary tours that will treat you to hidden delights of the Old City, cooking workshops, and an array of musical events (including a jazz bar on the walls of the Old City that will be open until the small hours). In fact, throughout Jerusalem, you’ll find many restaurants also taking part with their own angle on the festival, including special menus for the week.
The parts of the Old City that will see the main action will be the Jaffa Gate, Damascus Gate, Muristan Square, the Hurva Square, the Davidson Center, the covered Cardo and the Armenian Quarter plaza, plus restaurants in all four quarters of the city – Armenian, Jewish, Moslem and Christian. Some will treat you to their delights for free, some will charge.
