Watch out for the Tabula Rasa in Jerusalem this Sukkot!

Tabula Rasa JerusalemThe Machane Yehuda market in Jerusalem is certainly one of the best places to take in the sights, sounds and smells of the Holy City at any time… but over the end of Sukkot and beyond (October 18-30) things are going to get even more interesting…

Called Tabula Rasa (meaning blank slate), you’ll actually be encountering an urban art initiative within the streets and alleys of the market, that will be bringing a creative element in the form of works of art created by sculptors, photographers and artists. They’ll actually be using the environment of the market as a blank canvas for their own creativity. So, no, don’t call the cops if you see somebody slapping on what looks like graffiti…

Things to watch out for include a statue of Teddy Kolek made from recycled bottle caps, and a huge backgammon board. Also watch out for the graffiti artist known as Know Hope, who has tagged pretty much everywhere in Tel Aviv. Most of the work is scheduled to happen in the evening, if you want to catch the artists in action.

The market itself, one of Jerusalem’s must sees, is expected to be the main inspiration for the artists. Many pieces of work are also expected to stay way beyond Sukkot, bringing some new creativity and art to the Holy City’s premier market.

The project is aimed at both beautifying the market and bringing awareness to the importance of art. We say, Good Job!
