The renowned US photographer Spencer Tunick, he of the large groups of naked people photos, recently announced plans to take on the Holy Land. His mission: to get thousands of Israelis to strip naked in order to bring awareness to the plight of the lowest place of Earth, the Dead Sea.
Originally planned for Tel Aviv Port (oooh, lots of naked Tel Avivians would have been nice!), the concept has moved to the Dead Sea (in Spring 2011) largely because of costs and also because Tunick, who has Jewish roots (his father and grandmother live in Netanya), wants to raise awareness to the fact that the Dead Sea is fast drying up.
The conservative elders in Israel probably detest this idea, but perhaps they need to realise that his projects do bring huge amounts of media attention, and that is something the Dead Sea could do with. Many people have tried to bring the Dead Sea’s environmental issues to the world’s attention, but perhaps it needs tits and asses to get people really noticing…
And besides, we see nothing wrong with naked people (especially if some of Tel Aviv’s eye candy decide to take part). We like naked people. In fact, we declare this site Naked People friendly.
