The International Film Festival: perfect for movie fans!

Jerusalem Film FestivalThe annual International Film Festival has become a Jerusalem classic, with many thousands of guests enjoying some glorious movie moments over the years (the festival first started in 1983!) in the Holy City.

Film fans get to enjoy some film screenings, workshops, filmmaker discussions, awards ceremonies, musical performances, panels, and more at various Jerusalem venues. Much of the festival action takes place at the Cinematheque (located at 11 Hebron Road), but there are also screenings and festival activities at sites like the First Station (which typically focuses on Israeli cult movies) and Sultan’s Pool (which typically hosts the opening event).

The festival’s main goal is ‘to present its audience with the current trends in world cinema.’ Visitors not only get to see those current trends, they also have the unique opportunity to get up close and personal with directors, cinematographers, writers, and others.

If you’re a Cinematheque member, expect to get a nice discount on the 46 shekels entrance fee (2016 prices). For those of you looking for some freebie action, there are usually free movies on show at Jaffa Gate, Muristan Square, and Gan Habonim in the Old City.

This year the International Film Festival takes place on July 7-17, 2016. Opening the festival will be the much talked about movie from Pedro Almodovar, Julieta.
