Jerusalem is one mighty fine place to visit at ANY time of the year (check out some of the major Jerusalem attractions here), but this August there is a whole bundle of special events happening in the Holy City.
With the kids on holiday, and many Israeli parents also taking a bit of time off work, August is full of fun things to do, both for those with kids, and those who want to leave the kids at home. Jerusalem also doesn’t have the suffocating August heat that Tel Aviv has, and those cool mountain breezes in the evenings can be a real blessing…
We’ve done our bit to collect the best of the best things to do in Jerusalem, all you have to do is pick and choose!
In no particular order…
Jerusalem Wine Festival
The 9th annual Jerusalem Wine Festival (July 30 – August 2) is the perfect place to sample some of Israel’s finest wines. 80 shekels gets you a refillable (as much as you want!) glass, and you’ll be accompanied by soft jazz and the chilled atmosphere of the grounds of the Israel Museum. Exhibitions at the Israel Museum
The must-see museum in Israel is holding some special events throughout August (and beyond), here are some of the highlights we think you might like: Good Night (a look at “sleep”, for the whole family), White Gold (the world’s earliest coins), and A World Apart Next Door (an undercover glimpse into the lives of Hasidic Jews).
Take a stroll in the Old City
Last but most definitely not least…take a stroll down the streets and alleys of the Old City. Over 3000 years old, we personally never tire of wandering down those historical lanes. Even one for all the family, just a bit tricky with pushchairs. Read our essential guide to the Old City here.
