Renowned photographer Spencer Tunick has a dream…a dream of thousands of naked bodies, caked in Dead Sea mud, floating in the therapeutic waters of the Dead Sea.
Tunick is known for his photographs of huge nude crowds at sites throughout the world, and has already got over 3,000 willing Israeli unpaid volunteers (700 of whom are apparently students) for his dream shoot.
UPDATE: Here’s a video from the photo shoot, naked bodies galore – but from a safe distance!
He was in Israel a few weeks ago to help raise funds for his Dead Sea project, which he calls the “Naked Sea”. Fund-raising has proven to be successful, with an initial target of $60,000 easily reached.
The planned shoot is scheduled for September or October, just a month or so before the end of voting in the New Seven Natural Wonders of the World online contest, in which the Dead Sea is, of course, hoping to be named as one of the Seven Wonders.
By the way, did you know the waters level of the Dead Sea fell almost one meter last year? And that it has fallen some 25 meters over the last 30 years? Whatever the methods to bring awareness to its plight, something has to be done to save the Dead Sea! If getting naked and muddy is going to do it, then we’re even happier…
Don’t forget to check out our pictures of the Dead Sea – you never know, they might inspire you to get starkers!
