All of the artistic creations in Mekudeshet 2016 derive from Jerusalem or flow back into it. They explore and question everything that Jerusalem holds sacred, feeding off its complex reality and highlighting the beauty and good that resonate from Jerusalem.
The program includes 24 doco-theatrical tours in the footsteps of individuals who dissolve Jerusalem’s boundaries; Baaba Maal (Senegal), Misty in Roots (England), and Mulatu Astatke (Ethiopia) in Mekudeshet Music week; urban nature on wheels in the heart of Jerusalem’s city center; famed ultra-orthodox singer performing classic Arabic music; a mind-expanding night of lectures, seminars and art at Recalibrating—experiments in alternative realities; Jewish maftirim sung in ancient Hebrew from the heart of Islamic Turkey; a collective reading of the great archive of Jerusalem confessions; the largest singing circle in the Middle East will host some surprising guests; rustling sounds and voices from under the ground on the seamline between city and forest; A Matter of Life and Death—the Israel Story podcast presents a radiophonic-theatrical journey that begins from the end.
