The now annual Jerusalem Marathon is quite simply one of the holiest and most inspirational marathon runs you’ll ever run!
Started in 2011, the Jerusalem Marathon has quickly become one of the biggest sporting events in the Israel calendar. It might not yet have the numbers that the Tel Aviv Marathon can boast (some 10,000 ran in 2012, compared to 35,000 in Tel Aviv), but surely it’s only a matter of time before the Jerusalem Marathon matches and even surpasses its beach-side competitor.
The Jerusalem Marathon offers runners a truly unrivaled run, through some of the most well-known and truly inspirational sites in Jerusalem, including the Knesset, the Old City, Sultan’s Pool, Mount Zion, the German Colony, the Jerusalem Promenade and the Mount of Olives.
The running events include a full marathon, a half-marathon and a 10K run – all of which pass through Jerusalem’s amazing landscape.
The 2013 Jerusalem Marathon will take place on March 1. For more details and to register, see the official site.
Those taking part will get some special deals on restaurants and other Jerusalem attractions and will also be invited to attend the pre-marathon pasta night to ensure you’re loaded with enough carbs for the race.
Here’s a glimpse of some of the runners and the race itself from 2012…
