Picture of the Week XLIII
As spring is almost upon us, it’s time to head over to one of the most popular spots in Tel Aviv, the Port (or Namal in Hebrew). What spring has to do with I don’t know, but I just thought this shot was great, a kind of wake up call to spring and summer moments in Tel Aviv. Because this bridge over the HaYarkon river will look exactly like this in a few weeks…well, even during a sunny winter late afternoon, to be honest. Seriously, this footbridge gets over-used on a Saturday evening when the whole world and his dog comes to the Port. As someone who has spent years living in Tel Aviv, I avoided this area like the plague on a Saturday evening…but then again, if you enjoy “people watching”, this is the place to be!
The picture was taken by 5eyes, a lady who lives close to Tel Aviv and who has some other fine shots to browse. Go on, go browse!
Picture of the Week XL
This week we’re staying in Tel Aviv for a slice of Tel Aviv Port scenery, with a splash of sea and rainbow (can you spot the rainbow?). It’s been rainbow season in Israel this past few weeks - just the other day on my drive to work I spotted five different rainbows, one after the other. Stunning stuff rainbows, just a shame I couldn’t spot the crocks of gold…
The picture was taken by Dan2007, a guy from Tel Aviv who I’m guessing (and hey, call me crazy) joined Flickr in 2007. Again, there are some mighty decent shots to check out in his collection.
Picture of the Week XXXIX
This week it’s back to Tel Aviv beach we go, as the rains and snow sweep down on Israel this week. There’s nothing like a fiery sunset to get you wishing the summer would just hurry up…
The picture was taken by miodowski, who has quite a collection of sets to browse through.
Don’t know about you but I’m missing my flip-flops…
Picture of the Week XXXVIII
This week it’s back to sunny Tel Aviv (I think), for a typical Friday morning/noon street scene. The girl in the picture has just bought some flowers (probably for 10 shekels a bunch), maybe to stick in a vase at home, maybe to give to her Mum, who knows…
The picture was taken by 5 eyes, a girl who lives “close” to Tel Aviv. She has some nice pix in her collection, especially the Beach set, which you really should check out.
Picture of the Week XXXVII
This week we’re going for some typical Israeli architecture, with the angle of the pic the deciding factor for me. Closed in on at least 3 sides, you’re looking up into a cloudy, blue sky as a bird flies overhead. Great stuff! Truth be told, I’ve been feeling a little penned in this week myself, so that might also have been a sub-conscious thing playing away…
The picture was taken by Shay Sapir, who I have a sneaky feeling we’ll be seeing a lot more of. This Tel Aviv guy has some simply stunning shots in his collection, you won’t be sorry you checked out his Tel Aviv set. Promise!
Picture of the Week XXXVI
This week we hop over to Jaffa, Tel Aviv’s “other half”. The half which I really love exploring, especially the Old City and the Flea Market, great places to spend a Friday morning/afternoon. This week’s picture is taken from the balcony of the Old Jaffa Hostel, a charming option for the backpackers out there, right in the heart of Jaffa. Within a few days of arriving in Israel many moons ago, I spent a great evening chilling out on the rooftop of this place, and it looks like it’s still a charmer…
The picture was taken by W. Seiler, a guy from Germany who looks like he was on holiday in Israel at some point and has more great shots of Israel here.
Have a great weekend, and don’t forget - Fridays in Jaffa, highly recommended!
Picture of the Week XXXIV
As this is the first day of the 2010, and some of you are probably feeling a bit worse for wear, I just thought I’d show a nice shot of people having a good ol’ time in Tel Aviv on New Years Eve. Just loved the light and motion on this one, and seemed to fit the bill, and besides, there’s nothing like a bit of Tel Aviv nightlife to kick off a year…
The pic was taken by Gaby Kaminsky, a guy from Tel Aviv. He has a lot of nice sets, this one of Tel Aviv grabbed my attention.
Happy New Year! And yes, it’s going to be a great one!
Picture of the Week XXIX
This week we head down to the old, more rundown area of south Tel Aviv, into Levinsky Street. Here you can probably experience your first stab of culture shock in Israel, as you won’t find the pretty side of Tel Aviv down this way. The people here work hard, live hard and yes, shop for lingerie extraordinarily hard (see the pic below). I’ve rented places to live down this way; it’s cheap and definitely no-thrills. But there are some little gems to be found, you’ve just got to look for them.
The pic was taken by schnapper_j, a guy from Kfar Saba, just outside of Tel Aviv. He’s got some nice shots of Tel Aviv in his collection, definitely worth a browse. I love this pic and those faces on those mannequins, though there’s something scarily Joker-ish about them…
