Placebo live in Tel Aviv and bucking the trend…
British alternative rockers Placebo bucked the trend this weekend by actually turning up for their show in Tel Aviv. A lot of politics are at play these days, what with the Gaza flotilla story still raging across networks across the world..we ain’t going to go down that slippery road, but we do think Placebo deserve a pat on the back for coming and putting on what many people said was a great show.
As Placebo themselves put it: “Put your hands in the air, wave them like you give a fuck!” - jump to 2.55 to see a rousing finale with Israeli flags a flying and the crowd in glorious wave sync mode!
Rihanna performs “Umbrella” live in Tel Aviv!
Last night’s Rihanna gig in Tel Aviv went down pretty well from what I gather online, so here’s a clip from the show’s encore, her monster hit Umbrella.
“Tel Aviv I love you! I can’t wait to see you again!”
Rihanna hits Tel Aviv tonight!
Rihanna performs in Tel Aviv tonight! The sweet-faced R&B star is bringing her “um-bre-ella” to Tel Aviv’s Bloomfield Stadium, but she won’t need her brolly, it’s a hot one out there today!

Metallica LIVE in Israel - including sound fuckups!
Metallica performed last night to a sell-out crowd in Ramat Gan stadium (just outside Tel Aviv). I’m not a big fan even though I love guitars and large slices of rock, and anyway had a pressing engagement with the Champions League final on TV…
The show was apparently awesome, minus the odd sound screw-up. Here are a couple of clips from the show, just to give you a taste of what you might have missed…
Kool and the Gang LIVE in Jerusalem!
You know you want to, go on, shake your thang! The genuine, bonafide Kool and his Gang, strutting their stuff at this week’s Student Day festival in Jerusalem.
Israel strikes it big! Cliff Richard and Diana Ross coming to Tel Aviv!
Oh yes! Who needs Elton John and Metallica and even Rihanna - when you’ve got Sir Cliff Richard and Diana Ross on their way to the Holy Land!
There might be a mighty fine list of performers coming to the Holy Land this year, but I now I feel complete…at least if the news on Israel’s Channel 10 is correct. They declared this morning that Sir Cliff and Diana Ross are heading for Tel Aviv this summer, although no dates or venues have yet been scheduled.
I couldn’t find anything about the story online, so we’ll just have to keep our fingers crossed and our excitement on hold for just a wee bit longer. Maybe this is just another Rolling Stones teaser?
Frankly, I’m not sure how I’m going to get any sleep until the shows are confirmed…
And Cliff mate, Carrie doesn’t live round these parts, but you can find plenty of Devil women!
Crikey, did I just post TWO Cliff Richard videos…?
DJ Jazzy Jeff live in Tel Aviv!
The legendary DJ Jazzy Jeff stopped by on Thursday for a show in Tel Aviv’s biggest nightclub, HaOman 17. Jazzy Jeff, or Jazz as he’s otherwise known, has been plying his DJ trade since the early 80s, and was even crowned world DJ Champion back in ‘86. He is also known as Will Smith’s long term partner in crime, as part of the legendary DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince. Although they don’t work together as such, they are still best buddies…awwww.
Great to see another big name landing in Tel Aviv. Don’t forget to see our guide to who is coming to perform in Israel this year.
Yo La Tengo live in Tel Aviv
Yo La Tengo were here last week, performing at the Barby Club in Tel Aviv. Here’s a quick clip from their show. The American band got good reviews, as they typically do from music critics. Anyone out there actually get to see them in Tel Aviv?
