Champions League glory (ahem…) awaits Hapoel Tel Aviv!
OK, so a little less of the glory. Let’s just say if they grab a point and score a goal or two they’ll have done OK. Or at least better than last year’s Israeli effort, from Maccabi Haifa, who didn’t grab one single point or score one little goal.
Thursday’s draw for the Champions League groups stages, which Hapoel Tel Aviv have reached for the first time in their history, saw them draw Lyon, Benfica and Schalke. Not the biggest of the European giants they could have ended up with, but still tough, tough games.
We wish ‘em luck!
Picture of the Week LXVIII
This week I’m heading down the road from my house for a shot of the magnificent Sea Of Galilee. Every time I head down towards the Sea of Galilee (or the Kinneret as it’s known in Hebrew) I’m reminded of past holidays and long drunken weekends, so it will always hold some magical memories for me. Ahem, there’s absolutely no proof of anyone spotting me, early morning, kipping on the traffic islands near Tiberias back in the late-90s. It’s all lies. Lies I tell you!

30 Seconds to Mars LIVE in Israel!
So, 30 Seconds To Mars have come and gone, another one to cross off the list. Apparently they enjoyed themselves here in the Holy Land, including stopovers at Tel Aviv beach and Jerusalem, plus a meet-up with some mighty hummus and falafel. Bless ‘em!
Here’s a clip from their show on Wednesday night, which seems to have gone down a storm, judging from the amount of videos posted on YouTube and rave reviews…

Staying in the desert region of Israel for another week, this week’s pic is a fine shot taken down south somewhere. Not sure exactly where, but it reminds me of “golden hour” evenings spent in Eilat, with the moon already out (can you spot it?) and the Jordanian mountains in the background taken on a pink glow for a few minutes. It’s the little details in this one…

This week we trek down to the dusty south, for some desert canyony goodness. This pic is from Nahal Vardit, a small and cute creek in the southern Negev desert. If you’ve never been to the Negev, you really should check it out for some wonderful desert scenery. Especially spectacular in the morning or late evening hours.
The pic was taken by Chani14, a lady from Yuvalim, a small town in the Galilee.

Ladies, you snooze you lose – Ashton Kutcher in Israel!
Sex God Ashton Kutcher was in Israel this past weekend, apparently to attend the birthday party for the founder of the Kabbalah Center in Jerusalem. The American actor arrived here on Friday and was already gone on Sunday morning. He had been accompanied by his wife’s 19 year old daughter, Scout Willis.
Kutcher was in Jerusalem to attend the party for Rabbi Shraga Berg, who created the Kabbalah center that has become a hit with some of the biggest names in showbiz, including, of course, Madonna.
Nice to hear that Ashton also got in some tourist sightseeing before he left. Apparently the Tower of David and the Wailing Wall were the awesome parts of that amazing Holy City he got to visit, while he also stopped over at Abu Ghosh (for some legendary hummus?).

This week we’re off to Tel Aviv again, with a nice shot of Tel Aviv Port, one of the most happening places in Israel at the weekend. Lots of things to see and do here, including a great little Farmer’s Market on Fridays.
