Rihanna performs “Umbrella” live in Tel Aviv!
Last night’s Rihanna gig in Tel Aviv went down pretty well from what I gather online, so here’s a clip from the show’s encore, her monster hit Umbrella.
“Tel Aviv I love you! I can’t wait to see you again!”
Rihanna hits Tel Aviv tonight!
Rihanna performs in Tel Aviv tonight! The sweet-faced R&B star is bringing her “um-bre-ella” to Tel Aviv’s Bloomfield Stadium, but she won’t need her brolly, it’s a hot one out there today!

As summer clicks into gear, here’s a great shot of a typical seafront scene in Israel in Any Town (but probably taken in Tel Aviv because I think only Tel Aviv promenade has that special spiral paving). The beaches are usually packed at the weekend, and through July and August also mid-week, and prove a great attraction and social gathering point for friends, family and lovers alike. The scene below will be played over countless times in the coming weeks…
The picture was taken by Simply Boaz, a guy from Jerusalem who has some great shots of his home town in his collection.
Metallica LIVE in Israel – including sound fuckups!
Metallica performed last night to a sell-out crowd in Ramat Gan stadium (just outside Tel Aviv). I’m not a big fan even though I love guitars and large slices of rock, and anyway had a pressing engagement with the Champions League final on TV…
The show was apparently awesome, minus the odd sound screw-up. Here are a couple of clips from the show, just to give you a taste of what you might have missed…

As Cheesecake Holiday (Shavuot) comes and goes, we’re left with a few nice pics from one of the best holidays in Israel. Living on a moshav we get to host friends and family, who come to see the tractors, horses, wagons and carts, singing and dancing, and, of course, the kite-flying. It was my son’s turn last year to fly the kite, so this year my 3.5 year old daughter took over the reins…and did an amazing job!
Them there hills in the background be the Galilee. The Sea of Galilee is off to the right. And normal service is resumed next week…

This time of the year sees the fields turn gold as the field crops are harvested and bales of straw are littered across the skyline (OK, maybe not in Tel Aviv…). Next week is Shavuot, the big Jewish holiday celebrating cheesecake…and a few other things, including the harvesting of wheat and other crops. At least that’s what my daughter tells me (in her kindergarten they teach her stuff I’ve never learned about Israel!).
The picture was taken by Ilan Shacham, an Israeli guy with some more terrific shots in his portfolio. OK, the picture doesn’t have a bale of straw to be seen, but I thought it caught the colour of the landscape perfectly, at least in my neck of the woods (the Galilee).
Kool and the Gang LIVE in Jerusalem!
You know you want to, go on, shake your thang! The genuine, bonafide Kool and his Gang, strutting their stuff at this week’s Student Day festival in Jerusalem.

Off to the Dead Sea we jolly well go! One of my favorite spots in Israel, this is a great shot of what I believe is the main stretch of tourist hotel coastline at Ein Bokek. Love that reflection!
The pic was taken by Gilad Benari, a guy from Israel who has some great shots that emphasis the “different side of Israel”. If you thought you’d seen some great sunset pics, check out his gallery – you won’t be disappointed!
