Picture of the Week XLII
Well, I had a couple of cracking pictures lined up for you over the next few weeks but, thanks to the thieving git who burgled my house this week (and stole three computers, a camera, wallets, and a brand, spanking new Renault parked outside that I’d only picked up THE DAY BEFORE!), I had to go searching again for some new pics. And as the rains hit Israel this weekend, I thought this shot was the clincher.
The picture was taken by drormiler, a guy from the far northern town of Kiryat Shmona. The guy (is it a guy?) in the picture is drinking a typical Israeli cup of tea (no milk!), with the added lemon grass, ginger, orange, cinnamon and salvia. Just the right brew as the rain belts on down outside.
And you, the thieving git, I hope you’re out in the rain getting soaked. Catch pneumonia too while you’re out there.
Picture of the Week XLI
This week we take a break from the usual stunning sunsets and scenery, and plump for a little color. Personally I love the strong, vibrant red and blue in this one, highlighting one of those typical Israeli locks you see everywhere.
The picture was taken by Flavio@Flickr, who has some other fine shots in his Flickr collection.
A Toddler’s Guide to Nazareth
I took my kids up to Nazareth this last weekend. To be honest, as I headed for the back streets of the old market, I wasn’t expecting them to enjoy themselves too much. And as expected, the cheap clothes and shoes and scarves and fruit and sandwich bags and batteries, and even candies, passed them by as they held on tightly to my hand as we walked through the thronging mass of Saturday shoppers, the haunting wail of the muezzin’s call to prayer echoing down the market alleyways.
But with a vast array of kids toys on display (and cheap too!), they soon got into things. My three year old daughter settled on a poodle cum-fluffy handbag, while my four-and-a-half year old son went for a fishing magnet game. Happy as Larry they were. And after a couple of felafels they were really buzzing. The clincher was when they were handed some freebie promotional balloons for a local restaurant.
So, to let off some of that renowned Toddler Steam, I sent them off to chase each other in a forecourt of the Basilica of the Annunciation.
I think you can guess which of me or the kids had the better day out…
Picture of the Week XL
This week we’re staying in Tel Aviv for a slice of Tel Aviv Port scenery, with a splash of sea and rainbow (can you spot the rainbow?). It’s been rainbow season in Israel this past few weeks – just the other day on my drive to work I spotted five different rainbows, one after the other. Stunning stuff rainbows, just a shame I couldn’t spot the crocks of gold…
The picture was taken by Dan2007, a guy from Tel Aviv who I’m guessing (and hey, call me crazy) joined Flickr in 2007. Again, there are some mighty decent shots to check out in his collection.
Picture of the Week XXXIX
This week it’s back to Tel Aviv beach we go, as the rains and snow sweep down on Israel this week. There’s nothing like a fiery sunset to get you wishing the summer would just hurry up…
The picture was taken by miodowski, who has quite a collection of sets to browse through.
Don’t know about you but I’m missing my flip-flops…
