Enjoy some classic British National Theatre productions LIVE in Jerusalem this summer!

National Theatre in Jerusalem

Yes, we spelt that correctly, theatre!

For fans of the classic British National Theatre, the Jerusalem Cinematheque is your destination this summer!

OK, so you won’t be getting to see true royal Brits like Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller in the flesh actually strutting their stuff in the Holy City, but the Jerusalem Cinematheque has done the next best thing – and joined venues across the world – by showing National Theatre Live productions to local audiences.

Among the upcoming performances to be shown at the Jerusalem Cinematheque are Frankenstein directed by Danny Boyle with Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller in alternating roles as Victor Frankenstein and his creation (27.06), Hangmen (02.08), Peter Pan for the whole family (22.08), Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead (29.08), and Amadeus (27.09).

Launched in June 2009 with a broadcast of the National Theatre production of Phèdre with Helen Mirren, the National Theatre Live have since broadcast more than forty other productions that have been seen by over 5.5 million people in over 2,000 venues around the world.

Though each broadcast is filmed in front of a live audience in the theatre, cameras are carefully positioned throughout the auditorium to ensure that cinema audiences get the ‘best seat in the house’ view of each production. Where these cameras are placed is different for each broadcast, to make sure that cinema audiences enjoy the best possible experience every time.
