Sukkot shenanigans at the Tower of David, Jerusalem

Tower of David citadelAs Sukkot arrives once again, and practically a whole nation goes on vacation, one place that we always thoroughly enjoy and that looks great to spend some time at this Sukkot is the Tower of David in Jerusalem.

We’ve been to the Tower of David a number of times (read our review of the ancient Citadel, and the amazing Night Spectacular show), and have to say it’s one of Israel’s true gems – often just off the worn tourist track, but well worth a visit.

This Sukkot head to the Tower of David on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday from 10:30 to 16:30 (September 22-24, 2013).

There will be activities for all the family all day long, including an experiential tour, a theatrical story session, and arts and crafts. The tour takes place every hour between 10:30 and 15:30.

The tour, called A Street in Jerusalem, is based on the book by Hannah and David Amit, and is a dramatized and  exciting tour around the citadel with the active participation of children. The tour takes around an hour and a quarter.  Advance registration required (see the official site).

The story-telling session is actually The Sukkot Visitors, a drama and story with Yair Lehman, based on biblical visitors coming to the Tower of David Museum for Sukkot. A variety of outfits and accessories make all listeners active participants!

Finally, there are art and craft workshops. where the kids will get to build a tower of blocks portraying different periods in the history of Jerusalem. You can also build a child sized castle and join the workshop for creating helmets and shields.

Cost of all this Sukkot fun: children: 40 shekels, adults 30 shekels.

And don’t miss the ongoing exhibitions at the Museum, which are also worth a stopover!

Happy Sukkot!
