Independence Day is here again in Israel and as the old dear celebrates her 65th, we’ve come up with a list of ten things to do on this festive day (the 15th-16th April)!

Probably the biggest annual celebration of Independence Day in Israel, the action kicks off at 21:00 on the 15th April. Expect lots of clips and songs from the glorious years gone by, plenty of dancers, and yes, plenty of fireworks. Also expect PLENTY of people. FREE.
If you’re looking to boogie, head to the Exhibition Grounds in Tel Aviv on 15th April for this awesome looking party, which is bringing in a new concept of 3D screens and lasers to shake your stuff to, as well as a fashion show. For tickets call 052-5556005, 0505866623 or 054-7684785.
The weather is fast picking up, so head to some of Israel’s best beaches, whether you’re in Tel Aviv, the northern coast, Eilat, the Sea of Galilee, or the Dead Sea! Don’t forget to pack in plenty of sunscreen and water. And don’t miss our full guide to the best beaches out there!
This great little exhibition in Old Jaffa features some of the world’s finest miniature works by artists from Israel and abroad, including the legendary Willard Wigan. Perfect for all the family, there are hundreds of amazing pieces on display. Read more here.
Another great party for those of you in Tel Aviv, this 12 hour dance festival will feature some great international DJs, including Guy Gerber (Israeli), Damian Lazarus, Art Department, Subb-An, and Umek. The festival takes place on April 15th at the Exhibition Grounds in Tel Aviv. Tickets start at 160-180 shekels. See the Facebook page for details.
One of our favorite spots in Jerusalem, the Tower of David will be holding a number of great events, including a “Hammers Night” that kicks off at 20:00 and features readings of secular and religious texts, with plenty of songs and dances accompanying. At 23:00 Israeli band the Giraffot will be performing a concert, and after that the DJs take over proceedings. Read more here.
Those of you into your rock will appreciate this party over at the Dance Floor club, at 84 Ben Zvi Street, Tel Aviv on 15th April (starts 22:00). Featuring classics from Jethro Tull, Led Zeppelin, and the Rolling Stones among others, entrance fee is 50 shekels.
This awesome interactive exhibition of Van Gogh’s work has become one of the world’s most amazing multi-screen shows. Set to a powerful classical score, the works of art are projected onto huge screens, walls, and even the floor, letting you explore these masterpieces in micro-detail. Open til the end of April. This great music fest features some of Israeli music’s biggest names, including Aviv Geffen, Barry Sacharov, Balkan Beat Box, Hadag Hahash, and Meshina. The party happens on April 15th at the Amphitheater Park in Rishon Letzion. Tickets start at 139 shekels, call *9066 for more details.
If all that partying leaves you cold, chill out (literally!) at the Jerusalem Ice Festival. This amazing festival has wowed thousands of visitors and expect to see some of Jerusalem’s major sites featured as ice sculptures, including the Tower of David and one of Jerusalem’s hottest new attractions, the Jerusalem Light Rail.
