Oh yes, Israel is once again a world record holder. It took hours of blood, sweat and finger dipping tears but Israel has once again seized the record for the largest ever plate of hummus. Weighing in at over 4 tons, it smashed the previous 2 ton record held by the Lebanese and set last October. Expect this battle to rage on, and on, and on…

It might have been promoted as a move for peace (with a crew of Arab and Jewish chefs mixing it up in the Israeli Arab town of Abu Gosh) but expect Lebanon to come all out in retaliation. Talk is already brewing of a 6 ton effort (though the man behind the event, restaurateur Jawdat Ibrahim stated that his next project was to “try to set a new world record together with chefs from Lebanon. Today we have the hummus. Hopefully we will soon have talks for peace in our region.”)

Let’s just hope that they cleaned that old satellite dish used as the plate before they started mixing…

And here’s how they celebrated it in Abu Gosh…they might be happy now but wait until they see the queues for the toilets…
